How to Stop Worrying

By Donna Deming

Worry can rob us of finding joy in the present moment and keep us from reaching our full potential. How can you stop worrying? What can you do when you find yourself ruminating about a problem and moving quickly into a downward spiral?

Did you ever notice how when something good happens to you, you feel great for a little while and then the feeling fades? Yet when something bad happens the bad feeling can stay with you all day long as you go over and over the event in your mind. There is a saying: bad is stronger than good!

So what can you do? Here is one suggestion: When you experience a positive emotion such as joy savor the feeling; dwell on the event that brought you so much joy. Let the feeling linger and stay with it for a while.

When you find yourself ruminating and stirring up angry and depressed feelings distract yourself. The worse thing you can do is to keep yourself wrapped up in self-rumination. This will only lead to a downward spiral that goes out of control until you are drained, angry and feeling hopeless about your life goals and dreams. “I can’t believe she said that?” “I always mess up.” “I deserved that promotion.” “How come nothing ever works out for me?” “I am a terrible father.” “I will never publish a book.” “I will never date again.” One negative event can open the barn door to an avalanche of negative self -talk!!!

Yes distract yourself. At first you may reject that notion thinking instead that you have to get to the bottom of this problem. According to positive psychologists you are not going to gain any new insight into the problem through rumination. It can actually make you feel worse. You may also want to consider that you do not have a clear mind when you are in this state and your thinking will be distorted leaning heavily toward the negative.

Find something that will distract you from your rumination. How about a funny movie? Reading a good book? Physical exercise will help too. Get those endorphins going!

You may also want to consider scheduling worry time. Pick a time at the end of the day when you will sit and worry about your problem. This can free you up at the moment. 7 p.m. may be a good worry time, find a time that works for you. What’s interesting to note is that when 7 p.m. rolls around you probably won’t even feel like worrying about the problem.

Creating Personal Space – Five Easy Steps

By Megan Crawford

Article selected by Glen Luckman

Creating personal space is an important aspect of living a balanced life. It’s important to take time out of your busy, hectic, stressful life to slow down and prioritize your emotional needs. By carving out space for yourself, you are demonstrating that you believe that you are worth prioritizing. It looks different to everyone, but the universal aspect is that it is an emotional reconnection with yourself. It’s very easy to forget to prioritize your needs when balancing all of your responsibilities. Without stopping to reconnect with yourself, you turn into the battery bunny on autopilot. That’s no way to live! Take a few minutes and follow these steps to incorporate personal space into your life today.

1. Admit that you deserve personal space and make the personal commitment to incorporate it into your life on a regular basis.
2. Identify the aspects of your ideal personal space and be specific. It is important to create a visual image of what it looks like. Are you alone or with others? Who specifically do you enjoy recharging with? Where do you go to recharge? How much time do you want and need for recharging? What supplies do you need to make it a reality? What helps you recharge emotionally? What activities do you enjoy as you recharge your batteries? Here’s some examples to get you thinking: Taking a walk in the woods, reading your favorite book from childhood, playing badminton with a friend, relaxing on the beach, baking a favorite recipe while listening to your favorite CD, taking a bubble bath. Have fun being creative with your activities!
3. Schedule it in your planner. Intentions are wonderful, but without action, they are only words. Sit down with your planner at the beginning of each week and schedule in personal space for yourself. Unless it is scheduled, it won’t happen.
4. Identify resources that will assist you in making your personal time a priority. Who can you ask for support and accountability to stick with your plan? What friend could pick up your kids from soccer practice one day to free up your schedule for your relaxation time?
5. Reflect on your personal space. How do you feel? What clarity have you gained by spending time reconnecting with yourself? Did you have enough time? If not, how can you make more time in your schedule for more personal space?

Yeast Infection in the Body – Dealing With It

By Galadriel Anderson

A yeast infection in the body can cause you to have all kinds of symptoms including one that you likely didn’t ever think could be the result of a this disease. An overgrowth of yeast in your body is not something to be taken lightly or to be brushed off because having an ongoing internal infection can lead to more serious complications if left untreated.

Some of the symptoms of this type of infection in the body can include; skin rash, diarrhea, migraines, fever, dizziness and more. Then there are the symptoms of vaginal infections; redness, itching, irritation, creamy discharge, pain during sex or when urinating. The symptoms for male infections are almost identical as well. And, it can even show up in the mouth (oral thrush) and is easily spotted by a white film in the mouth that doesn’t rub off.

Treating a yeast in the body requires not only getting rid of all the excess overgrowth in your body but also giving your body the tools it needs to keep it at bay. You can start by cutting out of your diet any foods and products that contain yeast. These things are stuff like sweets and bread and beer. Sugar can worsen thse types of diseases so steering clear of anything containing sugar for awhile can be very helpful as well.

And to get yourself some of the good bacteria that actually fights off this disease and keeps your body’s naturally occurring yeast in check is just a matter of adding some things to your diet like garlic, acidophilus supplements and probiotic yogurts. Your immune system needs to be up to par to better help you in your fight against this disease, so being active and getting enough sleep and water are also great ideas to help you become disease free!

How Does Yeast Infection Occur in Infants? – Understanding Recurring Infection in Infants

By Ryan English

Ever wondered how yeast infection occurs in infants? You may not be aware, but it is a fact that this type of infection exists. This skin condition commonly occurs in the diaper area that remains moist. This infection is also possible when transmitted from the mother to child during childbirth if the mother is infected by yeast.

Infant infections can also be caused if a mother fails to clean the vaginal area of a female child. It can also be caused by inadequate cleaning while bathing the child. It typically starts off as a diaper rash, but is not healed quickly like a diaper rash.

How is the infection caused?

It is sometimes difficult to differentiate between a diaper rash and infection caused by yeast. Since the diaper area is mostly affected, one cannot rule out the possibility of this infection. It is caused by moist conditions of the diaper and yeast thrives on moist and warm areas if the baby puts on the same diaper for a long time.

The second most common form of infant infection is termed as thrush. Since the child finds this very uncomfortable, treatment for this needs to be undertaken very quickly. This infection can also occur on the skin folds as also the diaper area that remain wet and moist all the time. If a baby tends to suck her thumb or fingers, this infection occurs in the cuticles.

Treatment of infant infection:

Should an infant infection take place, a paediatrician is the best person to give proper treatment for the same. If the infection is seen on the diaper area, some special topical ointment is usually prescribed. Directions to keep the diaper away from baby is advised to facilitate increase in the passage of air and allow the infection to dry on its own. Infection is also caused by the plastic covers that are worn by babies over their diapers since plastic is a moisture barrier.

Generally, this infection occurs among infants basically due to their weak immune system. In other words, this is caused in a baby who remains sick. It also occurs on babies who are put on antibiotics because the medication advised would kill the healthy bacteria that prevents infection caused by the yeast.

Recurring yeast infection in infants:

When this infection occurs four or more times in a year, then it is termed as recurring infection. If this condition is left unchecked and its cause is undiscovered, then it could lead to even more serious problems such as chronic urinary tract infections and a weakened immune system. It puts you at a risk of other illnesses.

Should yeast infection occur in infants, it is advisable to take guidance of your paediatrician who will give the most appropriate treatment for curing it. Proper diagnosis is vital to ensure that you receive the most appropriate as well as effective treatment to get rid of this skin condition.

By Mujiba Salaam Parker

I believe that we are born with a good purpose for our lives and if we get in tune with it, we will experience our individual definitions of success. When we detour from the most beneficial paths we should travel on in life, the road seems to get rougher for us. These experiences will definitely become the opportunities for lessons to be learned, and it is crucial to make sure that we learn the lessons from the detours. It is possible to achieve your success in life by doing the following:

1. Follow Your Heart

It is important to do what our hearts are telling us to do if they are good in nature. This feeling can be similar to something that is pulling us in a particular direction. It is an internal compass that leads us in the direction we should go. I have found that even family members, who love me dearly, have advised me about things they felt I should have done, but I chose to follow my heart and every time that I did, it turned out to be the right decision for me. When we follow our hearts, they let us know the right choices to make for our lives. When we make the right choices for ourselves, we are achieving our success.

2. Do What You Love

We should also take the time to discover our gifts and talents so that we can do things that we are good at as well as have fun. I believe that we all have gifts and talents that we can do that will bring us joy as well as help others to experience joy. When we do what we love to do, we also allow others to appreciate our talents and have better life experiences. It is so important to do what we love because it is far better than doing the alternative. Our lives can be successful if we do what we love to do.

3. Stay Focused

We have to stay focused on following our hearts and doing what we love to do because life often times throws us curve balls that take our attention off of these two basic concepts. We must stay focused on what is important to us and what feels right for our lives. By ensuring that we keep our efforts on fulfilling our good purpose for our lives, we will be successful.

4. Realize Your Dreams

As we stay on the road that is right for us, we realize our dreams in life. Our dreams are part of our purpose that should be fulfilled. Now that I have realized this, I try my best to follow my heart, do what I love, stay focused, and I can truly say that I am realizing many of my dreams in life. Achieve Your Success!
